The meander of the Saugey located in the town of Brangues, is part of the National Natural Reserve of the French Haut Rhône. It is a dead arm of the Rhône.
This site hosts a wide diversity of environments: ash willows, reed beds, floodable meadows. More than a dozen remarkable plants have been identified, including the Marsh Hottonia, the Great Fluke Buttercup, the Little Naiad, the Guinea Fowl Fritillary. There are also more than 80 species of birds (Little Egret, Hobby Falcon, Purple Heron, Kingfisher, etc.) as well as remarkable dragonflies (including the Emperor Anax).
