Starting from the Vallée Bleue Leisure Centre, this easy 20km (round trip) route follows the famous ViaRhôna cycle path. It's an ideal outing for families and history buffs.
On the agenda for your getaway:
A safe route: Drive peacefully along the Rhône, facing the impressive cliffs of Bugey.
The City of Quirieu (The highlight of the show): Perched on an isolated 4-hectare hill, this unique medieval site overlooks the river.
A fairytale setting: Nicknamed the "sleeping city" or the "ghost village", Quirieu offers a poetic atmosphere where vegetation embraces the remains of the old Dauphiné castle and ramparts.
A bit of history: Discover how this place was a strategic border between Dauphiné and Savoy in the Middle Ages.
Self-guided tour: The site is equipped with thematic panels to help you understand the history of the place at your own pace.
Breathtaking panorama: Don't miss the orientation tables at the summit to admire the stunning view over the Rhône Valley.

Depending on your program, bring: water bottle, picnic/snack, sunglasses and sunscreen.
The bikes are equipped with a lock, a repair kit and a roadbook. Wearing a helmet is strongly recommended and compulsory for children under 12 years old.
From the Vallée Bleue leisure centre, a preserved environment which brings together a multitude of activities and entertainment, you take the ViaRhôna cycle path towards the medieval town of Quirieu.
Facing the cliffs of Bugey, you will see the site of Quirieu which occupies an isolated hill overlooking the Rhône. In the Middle Ages, the Dauphin castle and its town enclosed by ramparts intended to reinforce the border of Dauphiné, stood at this location. On the other side of the river was, at that time, Savoy.
The site occupies the entire area of the plateau, with a surface area of 4 hectares. The landscaped character of this village, in which nature and vegetation have reclaimed their rights, gives Quirieu all its originality. This sleepy village thus takes on the appearance of a fairy tale setting, where imagination and poetry rub shoulders with history.
The site is dotted with thematic panels that allow you to discover Quirieu in complete freedom. So walk along the paths of the site and head towards the orientation tables. You will discover the breathtaking panorama that the medieval site opens onto.
