Chamagnieu
Welcome to Chamagnieu, a village southwest of the Balcons du Dauphiné, in Nord-Isère. The Chapelle de Mianges and the Fortified House of Chamagnieu are the best-known monuments.
1. Heritage of Chamagnieu
– The 2011th century Mianges Chapel: the Saint-Clair chapel was restored from XNUMX on the initiative of the dynamic Friends of Heritage association. It hosts religious ceremonies but also a concert organized during Heritage Days and various artistic exhibitions.
– The Saint-Christophe parish church: renovated in 1999, it notably has a remarkable wall bell tower from 1844, the work of Hugues Quenin, a French architect. In 1878, the mayor, Amédée Calvet-Rogniat, sent a request to the Minister of Public Education, Religion and Fine Arts to obtain paintings for the decoration of the church. The painter Lucien Chovet from Paris is responsible for creating the 14 paintings of a Stations of the Cross. These paintings, painted in oil on canvas, are installed in the church. The paintings were all restored in 2021.
Also note the exhibition of the clock mechanism at the entrance to the church, dating from 1847.
– The Fortified House of Chamagnieu: perched on the heights of the village, it was built at the beginning of the 14th century. Property of the Eynard family, it played a key role in the dolphinal castellany of Crémieu. For several decades, this castle has belonged to the town of Villeurbanne which transformed it into an outdoor educational center for Villeurbanne children and teenagers.
2. The coat of arms of Chamagnieu
The Chamagnieu coat of arms, adopted by the commune in 1989, is a reminder of the historical past of the united hamlets of Chamagnieu and Mianges. It symbolizes the strong links with French royalty, the Dauphiné and illustrates the importance of the Loras and Leyssin families in the history of the commune.
A book “once upon a time in Chamagnieu” is on sale at the Town Hall.
3. The Chamagnieu Market
The Chamagnieu market takes place every Friday. It includes: a greengrocer, a local cheesemaker, specializing in goat cheese, a cheesemaker, a butcher (local producer), a fishmonger and a grocer. But also, a pizza truck on Wednesdays from 18:00 p.m. and a food truck on Sundays from 18:00 p.m.
