Musée archéologique de Hières-sur-Amby
The archaeological museum of Hières-sur-Amby, located below the site of Larina, presents through its collections the history of settlement in Isle Crémieu, from the middle of prehistory to the beginning of the Middle Ages.
Completely renovated and enlarged, the museum offers a new and original journey on the peoples who wrote the history of Isle Crémieu. It is located in the heart of the village dominated by the cliffs and the archaeological site of Larina.
Designed to facilitate understanding of archeology and the relationship of man to his environment, the museum traces the history of human occupation of the region from prehistory to the beginning of the Middle Ages.
From the prehistoric ceramics of the Caves of La Balme to the archaeological remains of the Site of Larina, from the tomb of the Celtic Prince and the Gallo-Roman villa of St Romain de Jalionas to the chariot tomb of a Gallic aristocrat in Verna, it is a new program that accompanies the visitor.
Through sometimes exceptional archaeological objects, the understanding of the route is facilitated by the interpretation of the remains using maps, models and numerous reconstructions.
Through a simple and illustrated chronology, the daily life, the ways of life, the conflicts and the funeral rites of the populations who succeeded each other on the territory are revealed.
Armament, ornaments, crafts, burials… so many elements present in the exhibition which allow to appreciate and interpret the technical, artistic and architectural evolutions.
And to welcome the public on many occasions and on a wide variety of subjects, the museum now has a temporary exhibition hall.
