Leyrieu

Welcome to Leyrieu, a town located to the south-east of the Balcons du Dauphiné. You can discover its chapel, its church and its small heritage. In April, don't miss the live performance festival: Les Turbulles!
1. Leyrieu and its heritage

– The chapel of Leyrieu – Notre Dame de Salette, also called the chapel of the aviators: it would have been built in 1857 after the supposed appearance of the Virgin in Salette in 1856.
Every two years a commemoration is organized by the Friends of the Chapel association in memory of the victims of two air crashes: that of an American plane on the village hill on September 11, 1944 which left 15 victims and a second , on November 6, 1969, in which a pilot of the Canadian armed forces was killed. A plaque on the rear façade commemorates the 1944 crash.

– The church of Saint-Jean-l'Évangéliste: from the 1824th century, it is listed in the general inventory of cultural heritage. The current building dates from the XNUMXth century and is based on the walls of the old church which in XNUMX had been enlarged with a sacristy.
