Maison forte de Montiracle

Perched on a small hill, an ancient fortified house and Templar commandery with slate roof, quadrangular tower and medieval dwelling, stands admirably at the bend of a valley. This very interesting building now houses a private museum.
Raised on the side of a hill with soft shapes, near the medieval town of Crémieu, the building has retained its character, thanks in part to its slate roofs and the staggering of the various volumes that constitute it. The big quadrangular tower raised on six levels could be the first construction, accompanied to the north by a tower sheltering a staircase out of work. The device is completed by a quadrangular enclosure wall, crowned by a walkway that has now disappeared. In the XNUMXth century, this dwelling was extended by a new main building, served by a second spiral staircase tower, of good size, giving access to a system of corbelled galleries, which seemed to surround the courtyard on two sides, 'after the visits of the Order of Malta. The building suffered significant damage, which notably required the reconstruction of two corners of the initial tower. The neo-Gothic window openings currently preserved can be dated to the XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries.

The building has obtained the “Heritage in Isère” label, rewarding the heritage quality of a building of departmental interest.
