Welcome to Siccieu-Saint-Julien-et-Carizieu to the west of the Balcons du Dauphiné, in northern Isère. Let yourself be dazzled by its two churches and by the Sensitive Natural Area of the Étang de Bas and the Cliffs of the Ravières.
1. Siccieu-Saint-Julien-et-Carisieu and its heritage
– The Saint-Julien parish church: mentioned for the first time in 1172, the initial Romanesque building was replaced by a construction probably from the XNUMXth or XNUMXth century and the south chapel retains sculpted elements linked to the lords of Saint-Jullin.
– The Saint-Jean-Baptiste parish church: rebuilt in 1894 to replace the old church which had become too small and in poor condition, the work allowed the addition of a monumental clock, decorative paintings and sculptures.
– Saint-Jullin Castle (private site): overlooking the Ry pond, it is an old fortified house dating from the 1836th century which was remodeled several times. It was partially destroyed during the French Revolution, and was rebuilt from XNUMX by the Countess of Chaponay, adding elements such as the keep.
2. Siccieu-Saint-Julien-et-Carisieu, nature side with the Sensitive Natural Space (ENS) of the Étang de Bas and the Cliffs of the Ravières*
The ENS Étang de Bas offers an overview of the typical landscapes of the Crémieu plateau, immortalized by the painters of the Lyon school in the 60th century. This site of more than XNUMX hectares is home to a wide variety of natural environments. Since the mid-XNUMXth century, this place has been a refuge for many painters. Today, it is home to many rare and protected species, offering a unique discovery experience.
Departing from Siccieu, enjoy a 4,5 km discovery trail (approximately 2 hours; loop) around the Bas pond. You can also extend your walk by taking the Gillieu pond trail (approximately 2 hours; loop), offering a complete loop of 3 hours and 6,5 km. Be sure to download the discovery tour booklet for an enriching exploration of this ENS!**
