Mairie de Crémieu

Since 1791, it has been housed in the former convent of the Hermits of Saint Augustine.
The stained glass window above the front door bears in its center the coat of arms of the city in the colors of Dauphiné, gold and azure. 3 yellow circles appear inside the coat of arms. They symbolize the economic power of the city.
Indeed, Crémieu minted currency from approximately 1337 to 1554. From 1317, the Augustinians built their convent. The Dauphin John II had authorized them to build it from part of the city wall.
The Hermits of Saint Augustin were originally only about ten but gradually the convent expanded and embellished thanks to the donations and largesse of John II and especially his son Humbert II, who will be the last dauphin of Dauphiné since he will sell it in 1349.
To the right of the entrance is a turret with mullioned windows. It was built in the 16th century to house a spiral staircase serving the floor occupied by the monks' cells.
Above the door of this turret, we can note the presence of a bas-relief sculpture bearing coats of arms burned (that is to say scraped and erased), two decapitated angels as well as a cartouche mentioning the dates from 1547.
