Sentier pédestre de l'ancien méandre du Saugey
Take your family on a journey of discovery through this ancient branch of the Rhône, shaped by nature. This easy trail crosses several natural environments, offering a wonderful glimpse of the rich flora and fauna of the Haut-Rhône National Nature Reserve.
Accessible to all, this hiking trail invites you to explore an ancient meander of the Rhône abandoned by the river more than 300 years ago, in the heart of the French Upper Rhône National Nature Reserve. This trail, ideal for a family outing, immerses you in a very unique environment between humid woodlands and preserved open spaces.
As you walk along, you will walk on the old riverbed, in the middle of a remarkable alluvial forest (one of the largest in France) and alongside a small canal lined with wooden footbridges.
The diversity of the landscapes and environments crossed bear witness to the active management carried out by the Haut-Rhône Syndicate to preserve this unique place where many rare and protected plant species have found refuge.
Between discovering biodiversity, immersing yourself in wild nature and absolute calm, this circuit promises you a beautiful nature getaway with the family.
Take the family to explore this completely redesigned route!
Along the path, let yourself be guided by Gaston, a former fisherman, and his granddaughter Lucie, two imaginary characters who tell you about their connection with this natural environment.
Thanks to educational panels interspersed with games and questions, young and old alike discover nature in a fun and interactive way.
Remember to bring your binoculars, your camera, and wear waterproof shoes.
Do not enter the trail in case of strong winds or flooding.
The harvesting of natural elements (animals, plants, minerals) is prohibited, except for mushrooms and fruits.
