Parcours patrimonial de Vertrieu
Less than an hour from Lyon, Vertrieu is an unmissable stop for the diversity of its monuments and other curiosities: its 18th century icehouse, its two castles or its bucolic herb garden.
Find on the heritage trail, among the important points of the city:
– The modern castle and the fortified house (private): the first, listed as a Historic Monument, invites you to stroll with its French gardens (open from May 1 to July 14), while the second dominates the village and is considered one of the most authentic fortified houses still remaining in the region.
– The herb garden: ideal for a bucolic break in the heart of the village. Come and discover the plants with your family. Its name is a nod to the Middle Ages when "simples" referred to medicinal plants that only apothecaries were qualified to use.
– The icehouse: discover the ancestor of the refrigerator, a stone and slate building dating from 1716!
– Enjoy an exceptional panorama of the historic city, the Rhône and the cliffs of Bugey by climbing to the Serverin cross.
– And much more…
