Visite guidée pour les scolaires de l'abbatiale romane
Tuesday August 18
Pupils will be able to discover the Benedictine abbey of Saint-Chef with all its symbolism; the Chapel of the Angels and its XNUMXth century Romanesque frescoes
which are among the best preserved in the entire Auvergne Rhône-Alpes region.
The history of the village of Saint-Chef is directly linked to that of its Benedictine abbey, classified as a Historic Monument in 1840 for its church and its Chapel of the Angels, entirely covered with frescoes from the 1833th century. The visit will take you on a discovery of this abbey, a jewel of Romanesque art: from its majestic façade and its XNUMXth century Gothic portal, its moldings with curly leaf hooks, its XNUMX organ, also classified as a Historic Monument, to the "Paradise" from its high chapel by taking a steep and narrow spiral staircase, symbol of the passage from the terrestrial world to the celestial world.
