With storyteller Sandrine Stablo and guide-lecturer Laurence Pinzetta, let yourself be drawn into the enchanting atmosphere of the Saugey marsh. In the flickering light of lanterns, the paths transform into secret passages, and the trees seem to hold their breath.
In this inhabited darkness, the remains of a former property—exceptionally open to the public—gradually reveal the history of a little-known place: a 19th-century penitentiary. This was in fact a reintegration center run by Canon Villion's Saint Leonard Society for the benefit of former prisoners.
A place where the walls, still heavy with silence and memory, seem to whisper the traces of those who sought a second chance there.
Pack appropriate clothing for the weather and waterproof shoes.

Access map
From Morestel, take the road to Argent and cross the Rhône River via the Evieu bridge. Then turn left towards Saint-Benoît and then left again towards La Sauge/Le Saugey via Rue du Château. Follow Rue du Château to its end and at the end turn left onto Route de la Sauge. Follow this road, keeping to the right. Park in the parking area just before the cornfields.
