Journées Européennes du Patrimoine : visite libre de l'église Saint-Jean-Baptiste à Siccieu-Saint-Julien-et-Carisieu
Sunday 20 September
European Heritage Days
This visit will allow visitors to discover liturgical objects as well as ancient priestly vestments. Architectural elements will also be explained, such as the pulpit and its tetramorph.
This church will soon undergo a major restoration.
At the end of the 19th century, the rural commune of Siccieu-Saint-Julien-Carisieu faced a major challenge: the advanced state of disrepair of its parish church, Saint-Jean-Baptiste. The building, already repaired several times, notably its bell tower in 1852, no longer met the needs of the population or safety requirements. It was in this context that a vast reconstruction project was undertaken between 1890 and 1895, mobilizing the municipality, the clergy, the inhabitants, and several patrons.
