Réserve Naturelle Régionale des Étangs de Mépieu
On the nature reserve, the succession of wetlands (ponds, bogs, ponds) and dry environments (dry lawns, juniper moors, boxwood formations, oak woods) constitutes a typical landscape of Isle Crémieu.

This mosaic of environments is a fundamental element explaining the interest of the site.
One of the factors of this diversity is water: from its absence (dry lawns) to its progressive presence (marshy areas then ponds) or variable (temporarily flooded banks), it conditions the installation of species according to their requirements (the European pond turtle which lives in wetlands and reproduces in dry lawns is a good illustration of this complementarity).
This diversity of habitats makes it possible to accommodate a large number of species, including many considered heritage species. Particular attention is paid to rare species for which the reserve plays an important role in terms of population (European pond turtle, European tree frog, Red pasque flower, Bohemian sedge, Sea sorrel).
For many generations, this site has supported agricultural, fishing and hunting activities which have shaped the environments and influenced the presence of species.
The Lo Parvi association, which manages this natural site, organizes numerous guided tours each year to introduce the reserve to the general public and schoolchildren.
The management implemented in the Regional Nature Reserve is carried out with local and institutional stakeholders within the framework of a management advisory committee, with the aim of passing on the riches of our natural heritage to future generations.
The choices of interventions are oriented towards reasoned practices aimed at maintaining open spaces by mowing, grazing and controlling water levels.
The management of the reserve must in fact make it possible to preserve the mosaic of habitats, a symbol of the natural and cultural heritage, characteristic of Isle Crémieu.
