The Chalignieu pond was recently classified as a Sensitive Natural Area (ENS). The town hall of Chozeau, which became the owner in 2017, is gradually developing the site in order to share the natural wealth of this space with the widest public.
This remarkable space dominated by its pond and its large peripheral woods is located on the edge of Isle-Crémieu, at the eastern end of the town. The open location of the site allows the reception of many migrating passerines.
The beautiful belt of marshland vegetation is home to a wide variety of waterfowl that nest there.
This site is home to a large colony of fluke buttercups, which are particularly rare in Isère.
The populations of amphibians are very important, in particular with regard to the common toad and the agile frog which are found in their hundreds during spring migrations.
Finally, the European pond turtle, which is the subject of a National Action Plan of the Ministry of Ecology, was noted several times on the site and confirmed in 2018.
At the confluence of many paths, it is also a place for walking appreciated by the inhabitants of the village and the surrounding area.
