Located in the heart of the agricultural plain of the municipality of Charette, the site of the ponds of Craquenot constitutes a real concentrate of biodiversity.
Created by the extraction of alluvial materials at the beginning of the 60s, the ponds of Craquenot have undergone different uses in recent decades: a bathing place for the children of the village in the 70s, then a dumping and dumping area in the 90s.
Following major rehabilitation work in 2002, the municipality of Charette asked for the site to be classified as a Sensitive Natural Area.

Over more than 7 hectares, the Craquenot site is now home to a mosaic of natural habitats which has allowed the installation of heritage plant and animal species.
Many rare and protected amphibians such as the crested newt or the Natterjack toad frequent ponds and flooded areas as well as a large number of threatened plant species such as marsh germander.
Sustainable tourism

In Isère, 17 departmental ENS and 129 local ENS participate in the protection of biodiversity. The Sensitive Natural Areas of Isère make up a remarkable conservatory of local natural diversity linked to altitude, the presence of a watercourse, a forest or other major elements for specific fauna and flora. A mosaic to preserve, enhance, develop.
