Espace Naturel Sensible de la Save – Secteur des étangs de Passins
Formerly, this site was an alkaline low marsh where the Sava meandered. Local residents came to mow blache (hay from wetlands) and extract a little peat to heat the houses.
Today, following the channeling of the Sava and the industrial exploitation of peat for horticulture, the marsh has disappeared giving way to a series of ponds on either side of the Save.
There is a procession of varied species, more than 745 species inventoried to date, some of which have a high heritage value, e.g.: the purple heron (Ardea purpurea), the dwarf bur-reed (Sparganium minimum), the pond turtle Europe (Emys orbicularis), etc.
The landscape of the site is marked by its geological history. One of its particularities is the presence in the same place, of a rocky outcrop polished and streaked by the Würm glacier, morainic deposits and old peat bogs which make it possible to trace the history of the last glaciation.
A 3 km walking loop runs alongside the ponds and goes up the neighboring hill through the surrounding countryside. It will allow you to discover beautiful landscaped atmospheres between ponds and forests.
In Isère, 17 departmental ENS and 129 local ENS participate in the protection of biodiversity. The Sensitive Natural Areas of Isère make up a remarkable conservatory of local natural diversity linked to altitude, the presence of a watercourse, a forest or other major elements for specific fauna and flora. A mosaic to preserve, enhance, develop.
