Eglise d'Amblagnieu

Built on a Romanesque base, it is located on "Le Plâtre", a rocky promontory. A bell tower stands on its square-shaped tower pierced with single or triple windows (twin bays or triplets). Its original roof consisted of lauzes.
It is composed of a nave, a choir and 5 chapels: 3 on the north side and 2 on the south side. They add picturesqueness to the building and some of them are open to the outside. In the choir above the door of one of the chapels is a medallion engraved in stone with this inscription: Saint Andréa and Saint Laurenti, the patron saints of the church. On the keystone of the ribbed vaults, there is the coat of arms of the Vertrieu family: former lord of Amblagnieu.
Following its restoration by the town hall, a study of the fresco in a southern chapel was made.
The soundings of the pictorial layer in place have revealed the presence of an old decoration of great historical value, directly linked to the construction of the church (XNUMXth century). “Angels would have appeared”.
