Eglise de Courtenay

The parish church of the village was built between the years 1870 and 1880. Placed under the name of Saint-Martin, one can admire carved on the tympanum an allegorical group, Martin sharing his coat with a beggar.
From the preceding building remains the XNUMXth century bell tower (probably a restoration), which is also that of the current church.

Inside the church: baptismal font, the age of which is certain but not dated.

We can also discover inside the building a tombstone which covered the remains of Louis le Balme de Montchalin who was parish priest of Quirieu, Morestel and Courtenay. It dates from 1528. There are 16 medieval necropolises, spread throughout the town. They range from the XNUMXth place called “Catogane” to the XNUMXth place called Flévin.

Five of them were the subject of excavations by the Grenoble Archaeological Center. Tombs without furniture do not make the task of excavators easier. To date, no trace of an inhabitant has been found.
