Eglise de Morestel

Former chapel of the Augustinian convent in 1425, the church of St Symphorien became a parish church in 1791.

Its square bell tower overlooking the ramparts makes the church of Morestel one of the most majestic religious buildings bequeathed by the Middle Ages in the region.

It is to the architect Berruyer (in the 19th century) that we owe its current appearance with its Gothic lantern decorated on one of its corners with a remarkable pepper turret.

The interior was renovated in 1998-1999 and it was on this occasion that the central stained glass window, created by Christophe BERTHIER, was inaugurated in April 1999.

The Morestelloise church is listed in the inventory of Historic Monuments.

To see: White marble plaque, Claude De La Balme mass foundation dating from 1518 in the chapel of the Virgin.
