Eglise paroissiale Saint-Laurent

The construction of the church of Vertrieu began in the 13th or 14th century and became a parish church in 1654. In 1777, the ceilings were redone and adorned with stucco decorations. The vertroland artist, Pierre Contissa, created the Stations of the Cross.
The construction of the church of Vertrieu began in the 13th or 14th century. This was initially a simple annex to the church of La Balme. With a Latin cross plan and a single nave, the choir and the side chapels date back to the end of the 15th century, as indicated by the coats of arms of the La Balme and Poisieu families sculpted on the keystones. Very badly maintained, the church was partly rebuilt in 1664 (commemorative plaque of the restoration affixed to the main facade), and became a parish church shortly after 1654 (date of the pastoral visit). Several construction sites took place during the following centuries. In 1777, the ceilings were redone and adorned with stucco decorations by Italian workers. Antoine Colini carried out work on the ceiling in 1845. The same year, the church was enlarged by the architect Jean-Baptiste Beaudrier. The architect V. Chaize took care in 1896 of the repair of the roof. The wooden stand overlooking the entrance was erected in 1902 to plans by architects M. and L. de Montclos.
