La cité médiévale de Vertrieu

The diversity of monuments and other curiosities of the Vertroland city such as the XNUMXth century ice house, the two castles or the bucolic "Jardin des Simples" make Vertrieu an essential stopover in the territory of the Balcons du Dauphiné.
Vertrieu owes its growth largely to its geographical location, in the hollow of a loop of the Rhône which has enabled it to develop its port activity for centuries. This highly strategic position traces its origins back to at least the High Middle Ages, as evidenced by the tombs discovered in the Rue des Juifs.
The architecture of Vertrieu at the end of the Middle Ages is both urban with its narrow plots along the streets and rural with its exterior staircases typical of winegrowers' houses but more generally of agricultural commercial activity.
However, if the Rhône is intrinsically linked to the history of the village, the two so-called “old” and “new” castles shape its landscape as much as its history.
So if you like romantic walks in the middle of nature or strolls along the banks of the Rhône, if you are a lover of medieval or classical heritage, you can only be won over by the charm of Vertrieu!
