La place de la Nation

This square is the former court of the Hermits of Saint Augustine, a mendicant religious order living off the donations made to it. It is on this square that an MH-listed pendulum fountain is installed.
Place de la Nation took this name during the Revolution.
A monumental gate from the 17th century enclosed the courtyard of the Augustinian convent.
At the bottom of each pilaster of this entrance, there are rounded pieces of stone called wheel chasers or hub chasers. Their function was to protect the wall from the passage of carts.
