Lavoir de la Planche

The washhouses punctuated the life of the hamlets in the past. Like the cafes, they were a meeting place. The women met there to rinse their laundry but also to discuss and tell each other the stories of the village.

This building is an example of a simple and utilitarian layout. Since stone is reserved for prestigious buildings, the wash house is built with more economical materials. The basin is in concrete and the elevation in poured concrete. The building is partially covered. A roof has regained its original appearance following restoration work. A single-sided sheet metal roof faced a two-sided scale tiled roof. This technique is representative of local constructions.
