Originally made up of very basic water reservoirs dug near streams, they were called "gabouillons" in the region.
The commune of Creys-Mépieu has one washhouse per hamlet. That of Daleignieu has recently been rehabilitated.

All washhouses are built on the same plan with a roof to protect the washerwomen from bad weather and the sun and to provide lighting, there is never a wall facing the worktop.
