Lavoirs de Porcieu-Amblagnieu
Of the 7 washhouses still in use at the beginning of the century, only four remain, still fed by springs: in Vassieu, Conilieu and Amblagnieu.
Originally made up of very basic water reservoirs dug near streams, they were called "gabouillons" in the region.
All the wash houses are built on the same plan with a roof to protect the washerwomen from bad weather and the sun and to provide lighting, a wall never stands opposite the work surface.
