The Bourg de Morestel develops in the Medieval period. A semi-circular fortified enclosure, part of which remains visible, was built to protect it.
To the west of the town, it is the rocky outcrop, on which remains the old keep of the castle, which acts as a rampart and provides natural protection for the site. Two gates in the enclosure provide access (Porte Saint Symphorien and Porte Murine).
Inside, several fortified houses and the Augustinian convent lean against its walls and form, with the shops and homes, an urban structure organized around the castle.
