Maison d'Izieu, mémorial des enfants juifs exterminés

The Maison d'Izieu invites you to discover, through the exploration of the museum and the guided tour of the house, the history of the Colonie des enfants d'Izieu, its place in the context of the Second World War and its importance for international justice.

When you arrive, a striking setting awaits you.
At the end of the road, you can see the house with blue shutters, the one where Sabine and Miron Zlatin welcomed more than a hundred Jewish children in order to protect them from anti-Semitic persecution. It was in this same house that, on the morning of April 6, 1944, on the orders of Klaus Barbie, one of the heads of the Lyon Gestapo, 44 children and 7 of their educators were rounded up and deported. Only one of the instructors, Léa Feldblum, returned.

A memorial museum since 1994, the Maison d'Izieu welcomes more than 40 visitors each year, including 000 schoolchildren. It aims to deliver, through the history of the Colony, a universal message of awareness, vigilance and the fight against all forms of discrimination.

Located on a protected site and listed as a Historic Monument, this residence perched on a hill in Bugey-Sud is an unmissable place in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, at the gateway to Isère and Savoie.

The house can be visited on a guided tour, evoking the children's lives through letters, drawings and photos.

The museum, housed in the former barn, is divided into three spaces to explore and deepen the historical context of the Second World War, the Jewish children's rescue networks, international criminal justice, crimes against humanity and the construction of memory.

Since 2022, a space in the museum has been dedicated to the exhibition of its collections, documents and objects that the Maison d'Izieu preserves itself: the Zlatin Gallery. Each year, a temporary exhibition is scheduled to allow visitors to discover "real" archival documents!
