Place Grenette

As in many cities, Place Grenette owes its name to the grains that were exchanged there during the weekly market, halls stood there for a time. In 1978, this square regained the name given to it in the XNUMXth century.
The old halls were located in the center of Place Grenette. The first traces of their existence appear in 1276.
These halls consisted of three bays and a wide door marked the entrance. A large frame of wood with two sides and flagstones covered them. This frame was supported by sixteen wooden pillars, each resting on a pyramid-shaped stone die. In 1872, the municipal council decided to demolish the halls and converted the site into a public square, the dilapidation of the halls being a concern since 1783...
The materials from the demolition are sold and the municipality buys eight stone dice for the sum of 40 F. These stone dice scattered in the old town are an integral part of the municipal heritage (example towards the library).
