Vézeronce-Curtin

The municipalities of Vézeronce and Curtin were united in 1973.
These communes, like many around Lyon, experienced significant activity linked to silkworm farming, especially between the 19th century and the first quarter of the 20th century.
Then the commune turned to the tobacco trade in the 20th century, which represented a contribution for farmers on small farms.

Like a majority of villages in the Balcons du Dauphiné, Vézeronce-Curtin found itself painted by artists from Lyon in the 1814th century. We think, for example, of the painting “Path rising to the Etang de la Levaz” by François Auguste Ravier (1895-1843) or “Entrance to a farm at Vézeronce” by Eugène Baudin (1907-XNUMX).


1. Vézeronce-Curtin and its heritage

– The Saint-Laurent parish church of Vézeronce: rebuilt in 1859-1860 by the architect Alfred Berruyer, it was built to replace the old Gothic church. It was then renovated in 1992-1993.

– The Church of the Nativity of Our Lady of Curtin: erected between 1873 and 1877, it replaced an oratory dedicated to the Virgin. This neo-Romanesque church had its interior restored in 1976. The two statues of the Virgin and Child were renovated in 2011.

– The famous battle of Clodomir at Vézeronce in 524.
It opposed the Burgundians to the Franks, and was initiated under the leadership of Queen Clotilde, a former Burgundian princess also known to have been the wife of Clovis, king of the Franks (who died in 511 before this battle).
Clotilde asks her three sons to avenge their grandfather Chilpéric II, killed in 450 by Gondebaud and therefore to confront the latter's descendants.
During this confrontation which took place in 524 in Vézeronce, Clodomir, son of Clotilde and general of the Franks, was killed. The outcome of the battle remains uncertain, however we know that the Burgundian Kingdom survived 10 more years before being annexed by the Frankish Kingdom.
There remains today a helmet found in 1871 by a resident of the town in a peat bog. Although he used it for several months as a container, the helmet is today well preserved at the Musée Dauphinois in Grenoble, which restored it in 1977. Popular tradition attributes this helmet to Clodomir.

– The Charray tower: now in ruins, it played an important role in medieval times. Connected to the Tour du Polet in Saint-Chef and the medieval Morestel Tower, it was part of a signaling network which covered the territory.

– Vernacular heritage: two common ovens are still in operation in Charray and Vézeronce-Curtin has 6 renovated wash houses, including two in Curtin and four in Vézeronce.


2. Vézeronce-Curtin meeting animals and nature

– The LudOGaïa park: this eight-hectare park invites you to awaken to nature through five spaces dedicated to biodiversity, one of which allows you to encounter deer, open from April to November.

– Father Louis’ educational farm: run by the passionate Marie, this farm is home to an ostrich farm, but not only that! Come and meet wallabies, peacocks, sheep, goats, rabbits, and many other animals. Guided tours are offered from April to October by appointment!

– L’arche de Julie, animal shelter: here exchange, kindness and authenticity are the key words. You will be able to interact with the animals during visits and workshops, by reservation only. Wednesdays and certain weekends are preferred, but reservations are possible all year round.


3. Vézeronce-Curtin, nature side

– The Charray botanical trail: discover a varied flora typical of the different natural environments crossed, including the Chartreux carnation (1,5km circuit).

– The Vézeronce-Curtin playground: the municipal square offers a space for relaxation and leisure (climbing games, swings, BMX track, slide and various games for children).
