Fours de St-Sorlin-de-Morestel

There is no trace of a communal oven left in St-Sorlin but you can see along the road that goes up to the church, the oven built before 1950 by Claude Allagnat to bake his bread.
The previous house (when you go up) was that of the baker Pecquet. It is a "mouth" oven. The cooking vault is low, the heating chamber is located below and the flame rises straight through an opening or "mouth". During cooking, this opening is closed with a bucket containing water which gives the steam conducive to cooking good bread. This oven can be seen working on the occasion of local festivals.

There is also a working oven at the Tour Carrée.
