General regulations:
– Second category national fish regulations apply (fish farming stamp, fishing method, mesh size, quotas, etc.).
– The closure of fishing from February 1 to August 31 each year to ensure peace and nesting for wildlife.
– Fishing is only authorized on the large pond (agreement of the private owner: the Vicat company and the rights holders)
– fishing is prohibited on the other ponds of the Étangs de Mépieu regional nature reserve
– Night fishing is prohibited
– Navigation using motor boats (electric and thermal) is prohibited
– Rowing boats are authorized by reservation (3 maximum on the pond)
– the use of the Float Tube is prohibited
– Moving fishing lines by boat is prohibited
– In order to maintain good chemical quality of the water and to ensure that the fish are not “force-fed”, the quantity of bait (boilies, cooked seeds, groundbait, etc.) must remain small.

Compulsory reservation of fishing stations
1 fixed station at the level of the bung (for 2 fishermen + 2 children-young people under 18 in the family context) and 3 boats (without combustion engine or electric) are possible per day on the site.
Access to the fishing reserve (southern part of the pond) is prohibited.
In order to ensure good coordination of the fishing activity, we ask you to reserve the fishing stations for the day.

Card price
The departmental fishing license is required to fish on the Grand Étang de Mépieu.
A fishing license specific to the Grand Étang de Mépieu is compulsory (to be obtained from the Alcedo hunting and fishing store in Arandon-Passins).
Its cost is €3/day per fishing post (management fees).
Children and young people under the age of 18, accompanied or not by adults, in possession of a departmental fishing license do not have to take an additional card. But they still have to follow the reservation procedure like any fisherman.

Fishing posts, boat fishing and vehicle parking

A map of the area is displayed at the Alcedo store. You must follow the indications and access your station according to the plan and respect the parking spaces.
Only the sector on the dyke side of the pond is open for boat fishing.
The fishermen in the boat must respect the fishermen in fixed position and inquire beforehand with the fishermen on the direction of the stretched lines.
The fisherman can start his fishing trip from the legal hours (1/2 hour before sunrise). During checks, fishermen must present their fishing license and their special "Mépieu" reservation card.
Fishermen in boats must present themselves on the bank as soon as the guards report for control.

The ecological management of the pond requires a variation of the water level (high water between November and June, low level between July and October) according to weather conditions.
Every 5 years the Great Pond is emptied and fished with nets. The fish are sold to a licensed fish farmer.
Every 10 years the emptying is followed by a one-year draining in order to maintain the structures of the pond and limit the landfall.
