Eglise Paroissiale Saint-Pierre de Parmilieu

The church of Parmilieu is attested from 1150 in a brief from Pope Eugene III, and the parish in 1225 in the pouille of the former diocese of Lyon. The present building may have been built at the end of the 15th century or the beginning of the 16th century.
There are vestiges of this first campaign in the choir (side walls, washbasin, tablet, departure of arches). The side chapels were taken over in the second half of the 17th century, the north chapel, with the construction of the sacristy, the south chapel on the occasion of the creation of a Saint-Jacques chapel in the parish church (2nd sink and 2nd credenza).

Attached to the diocese of Grenoble in 1790, the church of Parmilieu depended on the parish of Amblagnieu from 1801, then was established as a parish in 1846. The expansion work, approved by the new parish factory in October 1853 (add a bay to the west “without changing anything to the architecture”) were entrusted to Hugues Quenin in 1861. We can see the trace of tearing at the level of the old facade.

In April 1887, the factory council reported the state of disrepair of the building. A first reconstruction project was rejected by the town hall in 1893. A second project failed in 1902 due to lack of resources. The slate roof of the bell tower and the nave was removed later.
