Visite commentée et instant thé autour de Joseph Communal accompagnée de des produits du terroir à la Maison Ravier
Sunday June 02 at 15:30 a.m.
During the visit to the temporary exhibition dedicated to Joseph Communal (1876-1962), "The Alps and beyond", Maison Ravier invites you to discover a selection of cheeses linked to the terroirs represented by the artist .
Joseph-Victor Communal, born February 11, 1876 in Châtelard-en-Bauges and died November 26, 1962 in Chambéry, is a French painter, member of the Society of Mountain Painters (SPM).
The son of a road worker, he went to live in Chambéry and joined the Ponts et Chaussées as a clerk at the age of 18, after obtaining his primary school certificate. He then began to paint regularly in his spare time. Mobilized during the First World War, he became a soldier painter and received the Croix de Guerre 1914-1918.
He paints with a knife, in large flat areas, perfectly representing the mountain reliefs and sometimes revealing the underlying support (most often wooden panel). His training is that of an autodidact. Later, he recognized Ferdinand Hodler and Giovanni Segantini as masters of painting, artists he did not know when he started. He paints both alpine landscapes where the mountain appears in the background, as well as tighter views of the high mountains, as if taken with a telephoto lens, but also pastoral scenes or floral compositions.
