Private residence. This castle whose existence is attested since the XNUMXth century. is installed on the St-Laurent hill. Property of the Baron de la Tour then of the Dauphin, it protected the inhabitants of Crémieu within its ramparts.
This fortress stands proudly on its rocky base. From the XNUMXth century, the castle fell into ruin despite the work undertaken over the centuries. Its military role will end in the XNUMXth century but this stronghold played an effective role under the last Dauphins. By its position, Crémieu ensured the security of communications with the right bank of the Rhône and was for a long time one of the gates of the Dauphiné.
The Château des Dauphins, after being abandoned and used as a stone quarry, was partly restored in the early years of the 20th century. Its successive owners have had development work carried out there. Only a few vestiges remain of the medieval castle, including the south and west walls, the castle chapel and a circular tower.
