Since its creation in 2018, the greenway has become more and more popular with lovers of cool, windy hair, "Last one to arrive has to do a forfeit!", digestive strolls… but also by aficionados of running or cycling (all-terrain)!

This safe route is ideal for your peace of mind and offers several rest stops for refueling and well-deserved breaks. We love it!

Stage 3: the ponds of the Serre

Picture

You have already arrived at the end of the end of the greenway, which has a nice surprise in store for you: the Sensitive Natural Area of the Ponds of the Greenhouse! A protected place where you can picnic and stretch your legs by the water...

To reach it, simply continue straight ahead at the junction between the Voie Verte and the ViaRhôna. You will pass the small Fongeau pond and then under a bridge before arriving at your destination.

And for those who still want more, you can continue on the ViaRhôna! With the choice:

  • towards Montagnieu/Lagnieu and The Blue Valley from the Serre ponds (you have to allow no less than 17km extra!)
  • little backtrack to Morestel to visit our beautiful city of painters and its old town (8km away)

A glimpse into the past...

The Serre ponds offer a preserved natural setting, in contrast with the old industrial buildings still visible.

Once developed for leisure activities, the Serre ponds are now a Sensitive Natural Area rich in flora and fauna. Connected to the Mépieu Ponds Nature Reserve and Save Lake, they form one of the largest ecological corridors in the department (ideal for a break or naturalist observation in the great outdoors).

The disused buildings along the pond are a reminder of Arandon's industrial history: aluminum foundries, cement works, railways, etc.
The SOFAL foundry, active since 1946, employed many workers who lived nearby. The activity ceased in 1993 with the closure of the Bouyer foundries.
During World War II, the site was also an internment camp, where nearly 1300 people were detained.

Because there is nothing better to discover a bike circuit than to live it as if you were there and to soak up the impressions of those who have taken it: here is an article that takes you on our steps… (or rather our wheels):

Our inspirations… cycling!

By electric bike on the 18km Greenway

It was on a sunny and warm Sunday that we felt the urge to hop on our electric bikes and explore the famous "Greenway" we'd been hearing so much about in the Balcons du Dauphiné region… Without hesitation, we donned our caps, sunglasses, sunscreen, and sneakers…
