This chapter house now serves as the municipal council hall. It is also here that weddings are celebrated. But its primary function was to bring together the chapter, that is to say all the monks for the different offices.
Several elements still bear witness to this function, in particular the oak stalls from the 17th century. These seat-like compartments were used by monks during times of prayer because their rule forbade them to sit down.
The coffered ceiling of this room probably dates from the beginning of the XNUMXth century.
This style of compartmentalized structure, here in wood, but which could also be in stone, was fashionable at the beginning of the Renaissance as well as in the Baroque era.
Originally, this chapter room opened onto the cloister through 3 pointed arch openings. They were blocked in the 19th century but restoration work has brought them back into view. They can be seen today on the wall to the left of the entrance.
Many objects were brought back to this room which became the town hall's ceremonial room.
We notice on the wall opposite the entrance, the presence of spears and upturned scythes which were the weapons of the peasantry during the Revolution or the large paintings hung on the various walls; they were painted and donated by Claude-François Sornin, a former owner of Château delphinal.
Chandeliers from the church were hung on the ceiling.
